Ms James has contributed over 2,400 photos to HKFP during dozens of paid-for assignment throughout the summer. It remains unclear why she was detained.

She is a member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club and the Hong Kong Journalists Association and carries all the appropriate credentials and kit, including a press vest and passes.

HKFP has contacted multiple journalism watchdogs as well as the police, appealing for her immediate release and a full explanation.
