A female roommate at the Bondi Beach hostel spotted the camera on the sink of an ensuite room they were sharing. She had just taken a shower.

The 27-year-old tourist from France took photos of the device before calling the police on Monday.

Police then arrested Charles Chung on suspicion of installing a device to observe or film others, and possessing surveillance devices intended for unlawful use.

A police statement said: “A search of the man’s property revealed numerous hard drives and storage devices which police will allege contained further videos of women in private acts.” They added that they had retained the remnants of a smashed camera during a search.

Chung was denied bail and is set to appear in court at a later date, according to 7 News Sydney.
