A secondary school student in Shenzhen has sparked controversy after being photographed wearing expensive designer clothes to a local government meeting. In a picture widely circulated online, 13-year-0ld Liu Bo is seen sitting in on a meeting of the Shenzhen People’s Political Consultative Conference on Friday in an Armani suit, topped with a red scarf – the standard accessory for the Chinese Youth League.

The teenager was the youngest at the meeting, and the only student representative among the ten youths selected to attend the meeting.

He is also a child star. On Weibo, Liu Bo is listed as an actor, singer, and emcee. According to pictures on his Weibo page, he regularly attends charity events and shows.

His mother said that they did not buy the branded suit. Rather, it was a gift from the organiser of a musical concert he took part in last year.

Some netizens accepted the explanation, saying that it makes sense that he would receive a designer suit because of his child star status. “He looks great in the suit,” one said.

However, others have been more critical, saying that he is too young to accept such an expensive gift.
