Discovery Bay has been without functional flush toilets for over 36 hours after a pipe carrying flushing water supply burst in the northern bay area on Sunday.

Residents voiced their concerns on social media after a prolonged flush toilet suspension. The developer for the region on Lantau Island, HKR International Ltd (HKRI), said that City Management has engaged a contractor to undertake the emergency repair works and the flushing water supply should resume by Wednesday.

District councillor Amy Yung Wing-sheung of the Discovery Bay constituency told HKFP that she had contacted HKRI about the matter. No resident has contacted her to discuss the issue, perhaps because fewer people remain in the area during summertime, said Yung.

Yung said that it is unusual for flush toilets to be out of order for two days, as outages normally last between one to 24 hours. She said that she will be inspecting Seabird Lane on Tuesday evening, which is where the pipe burst on July 24.

According to an HKRI subsidiary in Discovery Bay, the pipe burst affected flushing and raw water supply in several areas of Discovery Bay: Beach Village, Headland Village, Parkridge Village & Parkland, Greenvale Village, Neo Horizon, Siena One, Siena Two A, Siena Two B, Chianti, Amalfi, Positano, Wei Lun Primary School, Discovery Bay International School, Discovery College, Siena Club, Auberge Hotel, Discovery Bay North Commercial Centre and a construction site next to Chianti.
